On Day 3, there was a half day of programming followed by the annual class photo, as seen to the right. The Summit of Awesome ended with the Make Something Awesome Party, sponsored by MailChimp. The party concluded with an ultimate Crafty Throwdown competition where one of our amazing volunteers Matthew won the title and a $100 gift certificate to Etsy.

Today’s lunch and Craftnote was with the amazing Jay McCarroll, as seen to the right. He painted a picture of how he got started in fashion and how he got to where he is today.

The first afternoon sessions were: How and When to Hire Help with Jon Wye, Rhonda and Elijah Wyman and Willo O’Brien; Best of Etsy Success with Danielle Maveal; Your Craft in Galleries with Jaime Zollars and Diane Koss and Crafty Throwdown with Kimberly Dorn and Christine Ernest.

The next afternoon sessions were: Brainstorming and Recording Stories with Tina Seamonster; Event Sponsorship with Kimberly Dorn and Christy Petterson; Copyright vs. Trademark with Diane Leigh Davison MLA; Email Marketing with Amy Ellis and Sharon Teng and Etsy Shop Critique with Danielle Maveal.

Finally the day ended with a Book Garland Workshop with Caitlin Phillips, Let’s Gocco Like It’s 2004! Workshop with Raina Hassan; The Importance of Photography with Miranda Lievers; What the Creative Business Owner Can Learn from Improv with Amanda Hirsh; Social Media 101 with Lish Dorset and Willo O’Brien and Etsy Shop Critique with Danielle Maveal.

We then started the first morning sessions: Branding and Identity with Jeffery Everett; Making the Not-So-Fun Stuff Easier So You Can Save Time and Sell More with Willo O’Brien; Screen Printing with Christy Petterson; Unblocking Your Creativity with Danielle Maveal and Community, Mafias, and Street Teams with Rachel Bone, Jen Menkhaus and Isaac Watson, as seen to the right.

Next was the lunch and Craftnote with BUST co-founders Debbie Stoller and Laurie Henzel on the topic of DIY or Die: How We Started and Maintained Our DIY Business for 18 Years and Counting, as seen below. They talked about the early days of BUST (when it was just a zine!) and Debbie’s first job at Nickelodeon (helping transcribe the script of Hey Dude).

Following that were the first afternoon sessions and workshops: Shameless Self-Promotion with Debbie Stoller and Laurie Henzel; Craft Fair Organizing with Rachel Bone and Andrea and Robert Tucker; Crafting Green with Becky Striepe and Shannon Mulkey; Licensing 101 with Jeffery Evertt and Jon Wye and Etsy Shop Critique with Danielle Maveal.

Finally, the last afternoon sessions were: Make Your Own Body Scrub with Kasey and Kelly Evick; Show Me the Money! with Caitlin Phillips; Blogs, Books and Magazines, Oh My! with Kate McKean, Lish Dorset and Kari Chapin; Legalities of Starting Your Business with Diane Leigh Davison MLA and Etsy Shop Critique with Danielle Maveal.

The morning kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with registration, breakfast and time to make your own name badge at the Make Something Awesome Area. After welcoming remarks, the first morning sessions begin. They last from 10:45 a.m. to 12 noon.

In the workshop Unblocking Your Creativity with Danielle Maveal (pictured at right), you’ll learn how to break through artistic ruts you may find yourself in. Danielle will walk you through some simple techniques designed to get your creative juices flowing again.

The workshop Screen Printing with Christy Petterson will teach you simple screen printing techniques. You will have the chance to try your hand at screenprinting yourself and print a design onto a handkerchief. You may also bring a cotton t-shirt, scarf or tote bag to print on instead if you’d like.

In the session Community, Mafias, and Street Teams with Rachel Bone, Jen Menkhaus and Isaac Watson a discussion will be led on how to connect with your local crafting community. Learn how Etsy Street Teams, Craft Mafias and I Heart Art programs are great ways to get involved and continue your crafty business education.

The session Making the Not-So-Fun Stuff Easier So You Can Save Time and Sell More with Willo O’Brien will help you be more organized, efficient and obtain valuable insight on how each of your channels are performing. You’ll learn about tools that will help make managing your business easier, so you can have more time to design and make your products.

In the session Branding and Identity with Jeffery Everett (pictured at right) you’ll learn how your brand is so much more than your logo. It’s that successful branding cross cuts all aspects of your business from products and marketing materials to cultivating customers.

Then from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. is the Craftnote with Debbie Stoller and Laurie Henzel of BUST. They will be speaking on DIY or Die: How we started and maintained our DIY business for 18 years and counting.

The One-Day Summit Pass is for your choice of Thursday, October 20, Friday, October 21 or Saturday, October 22. The price for a pass on Thursday or Friday is $100. The price for a pass on Saturday is $50.

Also new this year are special one-on-one sessions to either get your Etsy shop critiqued with Danielle Maveal, Etsy’s Seller Education Lead or pitch your craft book with literary agent Kate McKean! These sessions are both 15 minutes and Summit of Awesome registration is required to purchase a one-on-one session. You can choose the day you prefer to have your session and you will be assigned a slot and your session time will be emailed to you prior to the Summit.
