Want to party with someone that had the awesome idea to convert a delivery truck into a mobile letterpress studio and has been touring the country in said studio for a good chunk of 2011? Yes? Us, too!

Hello Craft is excited to welcome Kyle Durrie and her mobile letterpress studio to the District of Columbia next week! Please join us Thursday, November 3rd for a Make Something Awesome party we’re throwing in her honor. You can RSVP via Facebook here.

Stop by American Ice Company (near the 9:30 Club) next Thursday between 5:30pm-8pm to check-out Kyle’s awesome studio, try your hand at letterpress and dive into other craft projects available at the Make Something Awesome area. In addition to our button maker, we’ll have everything you’ll need to knit a beer koozie, decorate a coaster or make envelopes from old 6-packs.

The Make Something Awesome Area nestled under the roof covering of the Marie Reed Learning Center was the warmest, coziest spot in all of the fair.

Projects to make include embroidery projects, duct tape wallets, knitting, make your own buttons, felt fruit plushies, and envelope making.

There will also be giveaways at the booth for a bevy of craft books and a free pass to the 2011 Summit of Awesome!

If you want to take the making with you, kits for sale will include all the materials and instructions to make your own:

  • owl brooches

Hello Craft’s Make Something Awesome Area was in full force at Standard Recording Co.’s day party at SXSW last Friday.

Commodore Van Keepsie’s Craftacular Music Carnivale featured eight hours of music, awesome sponsors like Sublime Stitching, BUST and Hello Craft and a chance to buy handmade at the music portion of the festival.

The Make Something Awesome Area offered up projects such as make your own felt mustache or your own fabric-covered hair pin.

For those of you who won’t eat copious amounts of barbecue and experience a mind-melting amount of music, we have some special treats at the Hello Craft blog next week.

We’ve lined up interviews with members of the music world who also have ties to the handmade community such as Meow Meow Tweet/The Friendly Falcons, who are soap makers as well as musicians. There’s also Jane Dodd, a onetime member of legendary New Zealand jangle-pop bands the Chills and the Verlaines turned jewelry maker. Plus an interview with Dan Perkins, founder of Couch guitar straps and member of the power-pop band The New Fidelity.

So make sure to pay us a visit in the next few days. It will be like you’re at SXSW. Just without the lines or the fear you’ve misplaced your earplugs.

Pleasant Temporium this Sunday, as we host the Make Something Awesome Area and a Handmade Gift Exchange from 4 to 6 p.m. Buy or bring a wrapped gift to the shop ($15 value and under) to take part in the handmade version of the white elephant gift exchange on the closing night of the Temporium.

The Make Something Awesome Area will present free button making. Come learn how to make buttons out of recycled paper and newspaper or your own designs.

Last month we announced we were the official Vendor Coordinators of the Mt. Pleasant Temporium Pop-Up Shop. After a short delay, the Mt. Pleasant Temporium is opening this Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The vendors will be selling their handmade goods from February 18 until March 13. For a full list of vendors, please check out this gallery.

Hello Craft will also be hosting two special events during at The Temporium:

  • Saturday, February 26th from 1 to 3 p.m. Button Making in the Make Something Awesome Area — learn to make pin sets from books, magazines, your own drawings and more
  • Sunday, March 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. Make Something Awesome Area + Handmade Gift Exchange — buy or bring a gift to the shop ($15 and under) to take part in the handmade version of the white elephant gift exchange on the closing night of the Temporium

Hello Craft, the official Vendor Coordinator of the Mt. Pleasant Temporium Pop-Up Shop, is excited to announce the Washington, DC-based crafters and artists that will sell handmade in the shop. Please go to this page to see all the vendors.

The vendors will be selling their handmade goods from January 26 to February 26. Hello Craft invites all to stop by the Temporium to do some handmade shopping and check out our hands-on workshops as well as live music, storytelling and trunk shows from the local community.
