Day one of the second annual Summit of Awesome was a whirlwind of learning, making and seeing friends new and old. The following is a brief recap of today, as caught on the Hello Craft camera.

The Make Something Awesome Area was available all day for attendees, volunteers and speakers to make their name badge and partake in donated projects. An especially cute and popular project was the felt flower tutorial provided by Handmade in Portland.

The first round of today’s sessions and workshops began at 2pm. Diane Gilleland of CraftyPod was in Parsons and the Etsy Virtual Labs with her session Online Marketing Mistakes.

Jenn Hill & Jenny Tiffany of Robot Candy and Caitlin Phillips of Rebound Designs were in the gym with their workshop on Craft Booth Set Up.

Next at 3:30 pm were the Afternoon Sessions and workshops. Elizabeth Newell of Newell Business Law LLC and Handmade Portland presented the session the Legalities of Starting Your Business in Jordan.

Isaac Watson, Co-Chair of I Heart Art: Portland, was in the library presenting the session Connecting to Your Community.

In the gym was a combined workshop with Danielle Maveal of Etsy on Unblocking Your Creativity and Zine Making 101 with Justin Hocking of Independent Publishing Resource Center.

After a short break for dinner, attendees, speakers and volunteers gathered in the gym for the Hello Craft Welcome Party. The highlight being the Crafty White Elephant gift exchange. (Rules are here if you are not familiar with the game. It is a twist on an old holiday favorite).

Afterwards screen printing was set up and everyone had a chance to make their very own Summit of Awesome shirt to keep.

All in all it was a great day of learning and making. If you could not attend this year but would like updates from the Summit from attendees and Hello Craft do a search for #summitofawesome on Twitter.
