The second part of day one of the Summit of Awesome kicks off with a slew of learning sessions and workshops to choose from at 3:30 pm.

Isaac Watson (pictured right) of I Heart Art: Portland will lead the session titled Connecting to your Community. Isaac talks about the local connections to make and the opportunities available for crafters and independent business owners. He’ll also touch on identifying motives, becoming a catalyst, developing synergy and making a difference.

Elizabeth Newell of Newell Business Law LCC and Handmade Portland will talk on Legalities of Starting Your Business. Attendees will learn about the pros and cons of various entity forms like LLCs and corporations as opposed to working as a sole proprietor under an assumed business name.

For those interested in green craft join Becky Striepe of Glue and Glitter, Stephanie Weber of SCRAP and Christine Claringbold of Eye Pop Art for Green Craft: Sourcing Materials and Business Practices. Learn all about marketing your greener side and why all crafters should embrace environmental sustainability.

A workshop with Etsy’s Seller Education Coordinator Danielle Maveal on Unblocking Your Creativity will be in the gym. Danielle will give tips on how to break artistic ruts with simple techniques designed to get your creative juices flowing again.

Also in the gym is Zine Making 101 with the Independent Publishing Resource Center’s Justin Hocking (pictured right). The 101 workshop will teach how to create and publish your very own zine with just a few simple tools.

From 5 to 7 pm you’ll have dinner on your own and a chance to explore the surrounding area of the Alberta Arts District.

Then at 7 pm is the Hello Craft Welcome Party at Kennedy School. Attendees will screenprint their own Summit of Awesome t-shirt, have a chance to participate in the Crafty White Elephant (more details on this coming tomorrow on the blog) and get to know your fellow crafters a bit better.
