Women Only Exhibit at the American Folk Art Museum
Monday, May 10, 2010 16:27I was in New York this weekend and paid a visit to the American Folk Art Musuem. I wanted to check out their new exhibit “Women Only: Folk Art By Female Hands.” I strongly suggest every crafter, artisan and female art aficionado in the New York metropolitan area visit before the exhibit ends on September 12. It features a myriad of female works of art from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
There are quilting techniques on display, like this late-nineteenth century quilt made of silk.
Different mediums appear throughout the exhibit like this shadow box made of human hair.
Perhaps one of my favorite pieces is this crazy quilt. The unknown artist made her political statements known through the popular art of quilting far before women were given the right to vote decades later.
