In this months SDM they do a feature on metal smith and artist April Wood. Her work is extremely interesting combining elements of femininity and craft with concepts of the body, eating, and fluids. One review I read said:
[April's] work is all about the rituals of eating and the connection between sensuality and food.
… such a fascinating concept to explore in art.

April is quoted to say she is:
…drawn to the aesthetic forms and variants of plants and organic materials, the dialogue of growth and decay, strength and fragility. These natural forms are a language. I observe what they have to say.
In the article April’s work is described as:
Woods exploration of the body through its relationship with food does not produce and overtly political message, but is instead a more subtle deconstruction of consumerism and material culture. Her work also demonstrates the interdisciplinary nature of the arts in the mixing of its material- fibers and metals- and further connects to issues of women’s craft and domesticity.
It does not seem that April has too much of a web presence so the images I can share with you are limited. But her work is just so cool- so hopefully we will keep seeing more of here.
I really love her spoon work which is not online at all. And my camera just died. So I will try to post some images on my blog of those next week.
