One of Hello Craft’s bloggers, Joetta Maue, will be teaching an introduction to embroidery class, in Brooklyn, NY, starting next week! Don’t miss it! We hope that Joetta will report on her class when it is over!

Classes Located at:
Brooklyn General
128 Union Street,
Brooklyn, NY 11231

Class dates:
Mondays August 17, 24 & 31 @ 6-8pm

Class description:
In this introduction to embroidery students will begin their very own original custom sampler. Instead of following a pattern each student will design there own sampler with a water-soluble marker, using either their own unique handwriting or provided stencils.  Each student is invited to create either a traditional sampler following the guidelines provided by history or to create a completely unique autobiographical text piece of their own.

We will learn everything from the most basic skills of preparing the fabric, using the hoop, and threading the needle to finishing the project for final display. 6 traditional embroidery stitches will be taught: the split stitch, stem stitch, back stitch, running stitch, satin stitch, and the ever mysterious French knot.  With the skills learned you would be able to continue making beautiful pieces of art or simply embellish items of your own.  So bring your creativity and lets get stitching!

Students are encouraged to work with found, inherited, or vintage linen as their base.  If you choose to do so make sure that the linen is either 100% cotton or linen and washed.  Students can also work with a raw piece of fabric.

Feel free to bring stencils and quotes that you would like to include in your sampler.
