I recently saw an image of the very lovely poetry and embroidered writings of artist, crafter and poet Cathy Cullis.

As a huge fan of the use of text and language in art I was immediately smitten.  Cathy considers her work to be visual poems and indeed they are.  Often her work explores the language and emotions of love. (No wonder I love it.)

She does not have a clear artist statement but my emotions and response to her work rely heavily on feelings that the work has a nostalgic expectancy. An expectancy and yearning for love and family.

What is it about one’s simple hand writing being painstakingly re-worked in embroidery that makes it all the more beautiful?

In addition to her very lovely text work she creates some very lovely group portraits.

They remind me of old time family images. I can so imagine how lovely this work is in person and would love to see it on a large scale.
